Zarelle took a deep breath and worked up a smile. “Let’s go find Elsa. Then we are hitting a couple of bars in town.”
Calden watched them leave and didn’t try to stop them. The realization that he had lost any right to interfere in her life settled over him like a heavy blanket.
Thessaly’s face, already pale, went a shade whiter. She had expected him to call Zarelle back, to demand that she help. Instead, he was letting her walk away.
The ambulance soon arrived. Calden gave way and watched a doctor assess Thessaly’s injuries. He gave her something to stop the bleeding, then cleaned the wounds and dressed them.
“She doesn’t have to go to the emergency room,” the doctor said. “She’s going to be fine.”
“But what about all the blood she lost?” Nicholas asked.
