Captain Luka continued, “But he cares deeply for you. His injury wasn’t life-threatening, but it was quite severe. And yet, he endured it to keep you safe.”
Zarelle’s body stiffened, realization dawning upon her. Despite Calden’s reassurances that his injury was minor, she now understood the true extent of his sacrifice.
“Yes, I know,” Zarelle finally replied, her voice filled with mixed emotions.
Zarelle stood there, unsure of how to face Calden after everything they had been through. If he hadn’t extended the invitation, she wouldn’t have found herself in this dangerous situation. But despite that, Calden had protected her, putting his own life on the line.
If she had been alone on that deserted island, she didn’t know if she could have survived.
