  Callan looked at Constance. She picked up a bottle that had been open for a while. The wine had been breathing for at least an hour.   “Let’s have a drink before we eat,” Constance said. She poured the dark red liquid into three glasses.   I raised my eyebrow. It was bloodwine - a special drink for our kind. It was strong and meant to be drunk after eating, not before. The alcohol was too harsh on an empty stomach. But I didn’t say that out loud.   I wanted to see what Constance was planning. Her behavior was strange.   Callan picked up his glass right away. Constance moved away from the table quickly.   “Sorry, I need to use the bathroom,” she said. “I already had two glasses earlier.”   She left before I could say anything.
