The tension in the villa had become unbearable. After what I discovered about Daddy’s past, I needed answers from someone who had been there longer than anyone. I waited until Daddy was in a long international business call, then went looking for Mr. Reynolds. I found him in the staff quarters, sitting alone on the small porch overlooking the jungle side of the island. He looked tired, older than his years. “Miss Ava,” he said when he saw me, standing up immediately. “You shouldn’t be here.” “I need to know,” I said, my voice shaking. “Why do you really care what happens to me?
