The plane filled with moonlight as the bear withdrew. I could hear the sound of it moving away. My heart was pounding, I realized, now was the time. It would be busy with Mr. Lewis' body, at least for a while. It would not bother about me while it was feeding.
‘Now was the time to go.’ I muttered to myself.
I got up and scrambled to the front of the plane and pulled myself out through the gap left by the bear.
I stepped out onto a thick tree branch and leaned out. As I did, I gasped, grabbing onto the branch and holding tight.
Now I finally realized where the plane had crashed.
It had come down in the upper branches of a tree, and while I could not make out the ground in the darkness below, I could see that the branch on which I was balancing had at least a hundred feet of tangled lim
