I kept my arm wrapped around Sloane as she rested her head against my chest, her breathing finally evening out. On the surface, she seemed calm, but I could feel the residual tension lingering in her body.
My mind raced, connecting dots she didn't even know existed.
She was focused on the pack link, but my thoughts were consumed by Zia.
I knew something Sloane didn't: Zia had rejected V. She had broken a mate bond, an act that required an immense, almost lethal amount of strength for a wolf, especially one already weakened.
Where did Zia find the power to do that?
She had used up every drop of what little strength she had left just to sever her connection to Kai’s wolf. Was it purely out of hatred for Kai's betrayal? Or was there something more?
