Sloane’s POV
“Babe, I’m okay. I have friends, and they take care of me.” It’s a tiny fib. And also, up until the last time we spent time together, I had no friends. I mean, I was friendly with other staff members who were mostly omegas doing domestic work. But no real friends until recently.
“They cook for you?”
“No, but they bring me food,” I laugh as I say it, and behind her, Kai is fidgeting in my blurred view of him.
“But can you walk?” she questions in her childlike manner, even though she saw me jogging in. "Does it still hurt?"
“I’m fine,” I assure her again, wiping a tear from her cheek. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’ve survived worse than this.”
