And so, at night, Helio and Danae would slip out together, dressed in dark clothes that allowed them to blend seamlessly into the crowd.
Each night, she led him through the pack lands and into the town beyond, showing him a world he had only ever imagined. She taught him things no one else had ever bothered to, how to observe people, how to listen without being seen, how to understand life beyond stone walls and locked doors.
With every passing day, the boy grew more curious. And with curiosity came questions, about his life, his existence, and the reason he had been brought into the world at all.
