“You stay,” he said firmly. I shook my head. “I’ll be on my way,” Danae said, already retreating. I wanted to tell her not to go—or at least that I was coming with her. My pulse raced. I didn’t want to be alone with him again. Not when I didn’t trust myself. Without thinking, I turned to leave. But he caught me swiftly. My eyes widened in shock. “No—please, let me go,” I pleaded as the door closed behind Danae. “Don’t fight me,” he whispered. And oh God… I knew I was going to listen.
