When we got home, Violet walked straight up to me. I couldn’t decipher the expression on her face as she spoke.
“Why did you have to tell my son that you're not his father?” she asked, completely ignoring the fact that I had just awakened the Alpha power—as though she had already known, as though it wasn’t surprising at all.
“It was the right thing to do, Violet,” I replied, loosening my tie with a tug. “One way or another, he was bound to find out. Telling him now was better.”
I let out a long breath. Exhaustion crept through me, heavy and insistent, a dull ache settling into my bones. Drawing out that much power had taken more from me than I expected.
