I stood rooted to the spot, completely unsure what to say. Would it sound pathetic if I admitted no one had ever welcomed me before?
I genuinely couldn’t remember anyone ever doing it, yet the gentle way she said those words sent my pulse racing faster than it should.
“Easy there, your heart’s working overtime,” Violet remarked, one eyebrow arched as she glanced at me. Idara turned her head toward Violet too, while I swallowed hard.
“Y-yes… thank you,” I finally stammered.
When Idara looked back at me, a soft chuckle escaped her. She tilted her head slightly. “What took you so long?”
I opened my mouth to answer, but the words refused to come. I could only shake my head. Her smile grew wider at my silence—and that was the moment I realized she was teasing me on purpose.
