I take over as manager for the public relations office the following Monday, and as I walk into the office on my first day, in a brand new power suit that is the first and only thing I have spent some of my back pay on, I feel nervous but determined.
The room falls quiet the moment I step through the door, seven men glancing up from their desks with varying degrees of surprise, confusion, and, in one or two cases, poorly concealed irritation.
