Luna’s POV As the dish hits the carpet, I’m catapulted, without warning, back into my own past. I frantically drop to my knees, scrabbling to pick up the items I’ve dropped, silently begging that I haven’t broken or lost any of them. ‘I’m sorry! I’m so sorry’ I can hear myself whispering over and over again, please forgive me . . . please don’t hurt me . . . please don’t send me away. I suddenly feel hands wrap around my own and it takes everything in me not to flinch away. Flinching makes it worse, don’t react, don’t show fear, be a good girl and they might like you enough to let you stay . . . ‘Kitten,’ Ashton’s voice, gentle and coaxing, draws me from my thoughts. ‘Can I ask you something?’ I peek up at him, already knowing what he’s going to ask but I don’t know if I have it in me
