I held Emma against me with my free hand. She was pressed against my chest as if she couldn’t get close enough to me to comfort her. I knew how upset she was. She thought he hid it from me, but I could tell. She was being strong for me. I hoped that when it came down to it, when Kimberly was on her way here, that Emma would be safe.
