Irene's POV
Lucas arrived the next morning.
I heard the commotion at the gate and knew it was him before I even saw the car. Something about the way the guards relaxed told me it wasn't a threat.
He found me in the garden, watching the children practice their shifting with Ken. They were getting better. Faster. Their wolves emerged with less effort each time.
"Irene." Lucas crossed the lawn toward me. "I have news."
"Good or bad?"
"Bad." His expression was grim. "My scouts confirmed it. The Shadow Pack and Blood Moon have formalized their alliance. They signed a treaty three days ago."
My stomach dropped. "A treaty."
"Full military cooperation. Shared resources. Joint operations." He ran a hand through his hair. "Whatever they're planning, it's big. And it's aimed at you."
