I looked at her.
"The seat at the table," I said. "You asked for it at Patricia's office."
"I still believe the information is worth it."
"I told you I'd take it to Emory and Dax and let them decide. That's still where we are." I held her gaze. "But I'm going to tell you what I think, because you came here honestly and that deserves an honest response." I paused. "What you brought to Patricia's office changed what we understood in time to use it. That counts for something. What you did before that also counts for something. The decision about whether those things balance isn't mine alone — it involves Emory, Dax, and Vera Ashford, because this is a three-family alliance and any seat in it comes from all three of them, not just one."
