David Harlow sent the notice at nine in the morning: the authority had set the formal hearing for the fourteenth of February. Approximately eleven weeks. Standard for a historical case of this scope, exactly as projected.
He read the notice at his desk.
February. Eleven weeks. The hearing that would determine the formal consequences for forty-seven years of a deliberate and comprehensive suppression operation — for the taking of a two-year-old child, the arrangement of a career that had moved a guardian and that child across territories, the suppression of a charter section, the recruitment of a council operative, the construction of a financial infrastructure to sustain the whole.
