By the time the four of them reached the medical wing, they found Cecilia standing outside Jaime’s room with Dr. Anderson.
The two appeared deep in conversation, neither noticing their approach at first.
Nora, standing a short distance away, was the first to spot them. As Maya drew closer, she stepped forward and greeted her with a graceful curtsy.
“My Lady.”
Maya blinked, momentarily caught off guard.
“Oh… um, good morning, Nora.”
A faint, awkward smile touched her lips. “You really don’t have to do that.”
Nora straightened with a warm smile. She understood Maya’s discomfort perfectly. After all, Maya hadn’t grown up surrounded by royal protocols and formalities. But for Nora, after decades of loyalty and service to the Lockwoods, behaving otherwise simply wouldn’t feel right.
