“Jesus Christ!” he barked, his voice sharp and furious, and the sheer volume of it made my heart slam against my ribs. “What the hell happened to you?” His gaze raked over Tasha from head to toe like he was memorizing every single injury, every smudge of dirt, every tremor in her body. He looked like a man who had just been told the enemy had breached his walls, and in a way, maybe that was exactly what this was. Before I could even process it, his hand was on Tasha’s shoulder, guiding..no, pulling..her into the house with an urgency that made my pulse skip. He kicked the door shut with the back of his boot so hard it echoed through the hallway. “Who did this to you?” he demanded. “Speak! Speak up now!” He was so close to her that I could feel the tension radiating off him like heat.
