“I can’t,” I sobbed out loud, my whole body shaking. “I can’t even feel my legs, I can’t breathe, I can’t, I can’t, I can’t..”
His boot slammed into my stomach so hard I couldn’t even scream at first because the air ripped out of my lungs all at once, then I was gasping and choking and curling around the pain like it might protect me from another blow because it felt like my whole body was on fire now.
“Ahhh! Stop! Please!” I screamed, tears spilling down my face. “My pups! Please, don’t, don’t, please!”
And then his head tilted like he’d just heard the best news of his life.
