Aria's POV
Before I could respond, Viktor rose to his feet. "Stay behind me."
I grabbed his arm. "Viktor, if you go out there, they'll target you."
"I know, but I need to do this." His expression softened as he looked at me. "My duty is to protect you."
He pulled his arm free. Behind him, the warriors held their line, snarling and striking at anything that came too close, buying him the precious seconds he needed.
Then he moved.
He disappeared into the trees. A moment later, shouting erupted from the eastern side. The attackers turned toward the commotion.
Viktor had drawn their attention.
"Now!"
I moved. The warriors followed, fighting as we made our retreat. They fell back only enough to keep pace with me, turning to strike at anyone who came too close.
