Aria's POV
Joshua's footsteps crossed the room. Then came the answer, flat and emotionless.
"I was sent by Silas."
My stomach twisted at his words.
Claudia spoke again. "Silas sent you here?"
"Yes."
His voice was completely devoid of emotion.
Claudia walked around the desk. I pressed myself farther into the compartment. I could hear her footsteps approaching him.
"Did Silas tell you why he needed you?"
"Yes, he did."
"What did he say?"
"That the first-stage experiment requires a secondary sacrifice, and I will be used for it."
My blood ran cold. Silas wanted to sacrifice my brother?
Claudia didn't speak for several seconds. Then she asked quietly, "And you're willing?"
"I don't have a choice. I live to serve Silas."
