Duke was at the east wall when the car arrived.
He'd been there for an hour — the good morning light, the angle, the specific quality of Ashveil in the pre-noon window that made the compound's stone walls do something interesting. He'd been drawing walls again, which surprised him until he realized the walls looked different now than they had in the first six books. Same stone, same height, same configuration. Different because of what was in them.
He was cataloguing the difference when the car came through the gate.
He closed the sketchbook.
