Chapter Eighty-Nine: "What the First One Was Building and Why Someone Was Afraid of It"-1

719 Words

NEVA POV --- We needed Corva to tell us what happened at the first convergence. She'd known this moment was coming since Wren had laid the correspondence on the table. I could see it in how she sat through the reading — the specific quality of a woman who had been carrying something alone for sixty years and was about to set half of it down. We gathered in the east building corridor. Not the back room — the corridor, the bench, the place where things that needed more than a table got said. Mitch brought the folder. Wren came. Ryke sat beside me. Duke was in the doorway with his sketchbook closed. Corva sat on the bench. She looked at the folded pages in Mitch's hands for a moment. Then she talked. --- "Her name was Sera," Corva said. My wolf: *The name.* I know, I said quietly.
