Ethan arrived at the café on 5th and Maple just before four o’clock. He spotted Aria immediately through the large window. She was sitting at a corner table, looking hesitant but composed, her hand resting protectively over her small baby bump. Across from her sat a man Ethan didn’t recognize....tall, slightly disheveled, with the nervous energy of someone who had fallen on hard times. Ethan didn’t storm in. He waited outside for a moment, watching. When the man leaned forward and began speaking earnestly, Ethan finally stepped inside. Aria looked up the moment the bell above the door rang. Her eyes widened in surprise and relief when she saw him. “Ethan,” she breathed, standing up quickly. He crossed the room in a few strides and pulled her gently into his arms, kissing her forehead.
