BLAIR’S POV The car barely comes to a stop before I’m already out and running into Hailey’s school, my heart pounding so loudly it drowns out everything else. My legs nearly give out when I spot the police cars…two of them, parked out front. “My daughter!” I scream. “Where is she? Where is Hailey?” I shove through the double doors, gasping for air and then freeze. For a second, I have to blink hard. Panic does strange things to your vision, and after nearly coming apart on the drive over, it’s easy to think my eyes are lying to me. I squeeze my eyes shut for a second and when I open them, Hailey is there. She’s sitting on a low wooden bench in the hallway, shoulders slumped, her fingers clenched tightly in her lap. She looks up, her eyes widening the moment she sees me. “Mummy!”
