Lucius calling me his wife while Ryden was listening was disturbing. I instantly sensed Ryden’s infliction, and it broke my soul that he had to deal with it. At least until we were done taking the director down.
We went home later in the morning. I wanted to have alone time with Ryden. I wanted him to feel safe and assured him I was his, and that he didn’t have to worry about me and Lucius. Still, I felt the heaviness in each breath he took.
Guilt settled in my chest and twisted a knot in my belly. He didn’t want to show me he was affected, but we shared thoughts, and I could still feel he was struggling to adjust to the presence of Lucius in our lives.
