My car broke down while I was at university, so I had to take the bus home for the summer. It was a four hour ride, and I was going to be picked up by my dad and his new wife, Alannah.
I didn’t have the highest of expectations for her, especially considering his track record with women. It was a running joke that my dad would bring an engagement ring to the first date, as everytime he started dating someone new, they ended up getting married. Alannah was his fourth wife, and I could only hope that she would last.
School was stressful, and I was looking forward to having the summer to just tune out and relax. Sharing the house with a new person wasn’t my ideal scenario, but I figured she couldn’t be that bad.
When I arrived at the bus station, I started looking around for my dad.
