MORNING sunlight streamed through the tall glass windows of Amelia’s office, bathing the room in a warm golden glow. The city below was already alive with movement— cars crawling through traffic, people hurrying along sidewalks, and the distant hum of business beginning for the day. Inside the office, however, the atmosphere was calm. Amelia sat behind her large mahogany desk, flipping through a few documents that Ryan had brought earlier.
