“Patrick! Have you seen the news?” Jordan’s worried voice came through the other end of the line.
My lips parted and I blinked. “What news?”
“The Times just broke a story about the company. And Patrick, it’s bad.” He hesitated, as though he was unsure of how to say it. “They’re launching a formal investigation into your company.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Formal investigation? On what?
And why was it on the news? How did it get public without my knowledge?
“What?” I asked, my voice tense. “What is it about?”
Jordan let out a wistful sigh. “It’s about the dealings with the mafia.”
