I force myself back to my feet and start walking down to the main road, confident I can catch a cabfrom there.
I’m almost at the intersection when I hear a car coming from behind me. I tense slightly, but I shake itoff. This is just my heightened sense of fight-or-flight panic setting in. The normal paranoia of a girlalone in the city at night, dolled up in a very revealing outfit.
At least, that’s what I try to make myself believe.
But then the car slows down. Right behind me.
The vehicle revs forward and the window rolls down.
