“Where the f**k is my daughter?” Lucio roars, pointing his gun right at the woman. Evie’s skittish little voice breaks through the tense silence, and I feel it echo all the way inside me. “Evie!” I speak before Lucio does. “Where are you, princess?” “Charlotte?” she replies, her head poking out of the bathroom. The sight of that little face fills me with so much joy that I forget all about the tense standoff thatblocks my path to Evie.
