H A I L E Y We arrived at the base of the mountain range, the trees looming like dark, ancient sentinels. We made our way up the narrow road, the forest growing thicker, the air colder. Finally, we arrived at the cabin. It was a small, rustic structure, shrouded in shadows. There was no movement, no signs of life. But I knew they were inside. Giovanni and his warriors moved like ghosts, their movements fluid and deadly. Valerie and I stayed in the car, our heartspounding in our chests.
