“Hey Mom, something came up with that family thing near the upscale district.
I’ll handle it quickly and be home soon,” I said into the phone as I slipped away from the main gate path, my heart pounding while Allie’s figure disappeared around the corner.
I hung up fast and took the concealed route through the back alleys lined with tall hedges, the kind that hid me from prying eyes.
