Seraphina hurled the pillow at him.
"Shameless."
"And you’re cute," he said with a wink, catching the pillow with lazy ease and tossing it right back onto the bed.
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the small smile that touched her lips. It was one of the rare peaceful moments they had shared in the past few weeks. The tension between them, the silent wounds, the unspoken apologies…. They all lingered in the background. But for now, there was laughter, happiness and warmth.
Until it wasn’t.
Seraphina’s gaze drifted away, her body slowly going still. Her fingers tightened slightly against the sheets. That soft smile faded from her lips like smoke.
Vincenzo noticed the change instantly.
"Hey baby," he said, his voice gentler now. "What’s wrong?"
