TWO WEEKS LATER
I figured it was time Willa and I spent some time together. Lately, she’d been so wrapped up with Devin it was hard to get a moment alone with her.
I practically skipped to her room, knocked quickly, and opened the door with a grin.
The grin vanished the moment I saw her.
“Willa?” I called softly.
She didn’t hear me. She was curled up in bed, hugging herself, her whole body shaking as she cried. The kind of crying that hurt to listen to.
“Willa,” I said again, stepping in.
This time, she heard me. Her head lifted a little from the damp pillow. She wiped at her eyes, trying to stop the tears, but gave up and dropped her head back down.
