Ryder briefed me on the vendor tracking the following morning, and I spent most of the day working through the unsettling possibility with him, cross-referencing security footage and delivery logs, trying to determine whether this represented a genuine threat or simply overzealous press interest we’d need to manage rather than fear.
“It could be paparazzi,” Ryder admitted, though something in his tone suggested he didn’t fully believe that himself. “Trying to get ahead of the story before we’re ready to announce anything. Wouldn’t be the first time someone’s gotten resourceful trying to scoop a story on this family.”
“But you don’t think that’s what it is.”
“I don’t know yet,” he said honestly. “I just don’t like not knowing. Especially with Micah’s safety always the priority.”
