I take it and nod. “Thanks.” We stand there for a second, both holding something warm and not quite knowing what to do with the space between us now that everything has shifted. “You held control.” He says finally. I look at him. “You didn’t stop me.” That sits between us, and he nods once. “No.” There is no explanation and no defense, and there does not need to be because we both understand what that meant. “You could have.” I add. “Yes.” He says.
