Kali “You’re late. You were supposed to be done half an hour ago, and I couldn’t reach you on the comms.” My manager, Darla, stood in the housekeeping laundry room with her hands on her hips and a disapproving frown on her face. She was young—my age—but with her cranky, haughty attitude, you’d think she was decades older. Most of the staff and managers left me alone, but Darla had taken an instant dislike to me. Behind me, Trick squeezed my hips in warning. I was stuck. If I told Darla that he was here to kidnap me, he’d tell her my secret. My plan was that she’d crack down hard on the No Fraternizing with the Guests rule and send him running, giving me a chance to escape. “I’m sorry, Darla, I didn’t know you were waiting for me,” I said as I self-consciously tugged at my wig and smile
