The next morning my body felt tired from the restless dreams. I changed into a simple dress and went downstairs. I tried to stay out of Lucian’s way, but he found me in the living room. “Aurora,” he said, walking in with his usual cold look. “There is a charity dinner party here at the mansion tonight. Important people will come. You will dress nicely and act like my wife. Don’t embarrass me.” I looked at him in surprise. “A party? Tonight? You didn’t tell me before.” “I’m telling you now,” he replied. “A maid will help you get ready. Be ready by seven. Smile, stay close to me, and speak only when spoken to.” I nodded slowly. “Okay. I will try.” Inside, I felt nervous. Lucian looked at me for a moment longer, then turned and went back to his study without another word. The day passed
