Laura I’m not sure how long I slept. When I woke up, I was initially confused about where I was. Then I realized I was in my childhood bedroom. In a way, I was hoping I had dreamt the last twenty-four hours. But seeing a few of my favorite stuffed animals in the corner of my room from when I was a little girl confirmed that it wasn’t a dream. I swung my feet over the side of the bed and sat up. Stephen was nowhere to be found in this room. I needed something sweet, so I got up off the bed and made my way down the stairs to the kitchen. I noticed the light was on in there; otherwise, the house was dark. When I entered the kitchen, I saw my dad sipping a glass of milk. “Daddy?” I said to him. “Hey, baby. How are you feeling?” he asked as he set his glass of milk down on the counter.
