Ethan and Eren remained silent.
It wasn't a brief or uncomfortable silence.
It was a heavy one. Ancient. Filled with all the things left unsaid.
The distant rustling of the wind against the stone was the only sound in the room.
Finally, Eren broke the silence.
“Why are you really here?” he asked directly. “I don't believe you just came to see how I'm doing.”
Ethan met his gaze, though it was harder than he expected.
“That's it. I just wanted to see you. To see that you were okay…” he paused briefly. “Although, from what I saw, you are.”
There was something in his tone. A silent judgment of what he had witnessed upon entering.
