I slowly rise from my seat, my legs feel too numb from too much sitting. My mouth feels dry. I don’t know what to say. My eyes just move on their own, drifting across the room and landing on him. And for the first time since he walked into this courtroom, Adam is looking right back at me. A sharp little gasp pulls itself from my mouth. I wasn’t ready for it. I wasn’t ready for his eyes. They aren’t cold or angry. They are full of so much pain, it’s like looking into a mirror of my own heart. He looks completely shattered, like he's feeling what I'm feeling. I want to be so angry.
