I slowly came awake, stretching languidly across the soft sheets and stifling a yawn. My body felt surprisingly rested, which was strange considering everything that had happened last night. The attack, the revelations, the impossible choices laid before me – it all should have kept me tossing and turning all night.
But somehow, I'd slept. And slept well, too.
I stretched again, feeling my muscles unknot as I stared up at the ceiling. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting gentle shadows across the room. For a moment, I let myself just exist in that peaceful in-between space, not quite ready to face the day and all its complications.
