To his credit, Nathan didn't laugh or look at me like I'd lost my mind. Instead, he simply waited for me to continue, his dark eyes never leaving my face.
"Over a hundred years ago, there was a unified werewolf kingdom ruled by a single king," I continued, the words coming easier now that I'd begun. "My ancestor, my great-great-grandfather, was that king. But the kingdom fell apart due to betrayal from within, from his trusted advisors who wanted power for themselves. They orchestrated a civil war that tore the realm apart, dividing it into dozens of separate packs, each fighting for territory and dominance."
Nathan's hand moved slightly closer to mine on the stone bench, offering silent support.
