The forest beyond Silver Crest never really slept. Even at midnight, you’d catch movement slipping through those old trees. The cold wind cut along the mountain passes—a warning, if you wanted it. Lately, wolves watched the borders without stopping. Flames flickered along the wall tops. Armed sentries tracked every shadow out there. But away from all the routes and routines— Someone watched them, too. Selene stood on a rocky outcrop, surveying the world below. Her dark clothes melted into the night while her silver eyes fixed on the glowing cluster of pack buildings. She hadn’t stepped back into the mansion since that meeting in the archives. It wasn’t Kael she feared. She didn’t trust herself, not around him. That truth annoyed her more than she liked to admit. Below, Silver C
