All his misgivings about Freda – and the guilty daydreaming about Nadia that had come up during his quiet investigation – flashed through Kael’s mind in a second as he rounded the corner to see Freda looming over Nadia in the dress shop.
He’d heard Freda’s threatening words as he approached, though the tone she used was so cruel and cutting that he almost hadn’t recognised it as Freda’s voice: “I can do anything I want. To anyone. Especially to a wolfless like you. I could maul you half to death right here and now in the store, and nobody would stop me.”
