I’d hoped to have a little while longer to settle back into life at Fenris Hall before I faced him. But that evening, only a handful of hours after I’d returned, Kael found me.
I was heading back to my dorm room after speaking with the registrar to end my leave and collecting my missed work from the mailroom. All the college administrators I’d encountered had welcomed me back awkwardly, claiming that I’d been missed around school (not very likely, I thought) and that they were glad to see me recovered so quickly (always said in a voice of poorly-disguised surprise).
“I assume Professor Voss will be returning to us from leave as well?” the woman running the mailroom said casually, and I bit back a groan.
