Evelyn I call for a healer, sending him to fetch Dr. Zorinski, to let her know that Emma has woken up. By the time my mom enters the hospital wing, Alexander and Dr. Zorinski have helped Emma up into a sitting position. Her eyes are open, and she’s called her brother an i***t twice, which has made him laugh both times. Mom’s eyes widen when she sees the excitement around Emma’s bed, but she comes right to me. There are about four people hovering around Emma who I keep trying to look around to get a better view of my best friend finally awake. When Mom approaches, I reach out my hand to her, holding back tears. So is she. “My baby girl,” she says, pulling me into an embrace, and the tears rush out of me.
