Part of me worries that I’ll fall asleep while waiting for Lucas to fall asleep. But I’m so wired, so worried, it’s not a fight to stay awake at all.
I wait for him to start snoring. The sound is familiar, but definitely not something I miss.
I slowly sit up, watching him to see if he notices. He doesn’t budge, and his snoring doesn’t falter.
I scoot down the bed slowly, preparing my excuses in case he wakes up.
I had to pee.
I thought I heard something.
I got thirsty.
I’m so embarrassed I woke you.
I got too hot.
I had a nightmare.
Depending on his reaction, I’ll throw in some tears and cuddle into him. Hopefully, I don’t have to do that.
Hopefully he doesn’t wake up at all.
